I enjoy learning about the pioneers in our industry, especially the freedom fighters. I’ve recently been studying the short life of Aaron Swartz. Arron was a computer programmer and activist. He was a member of the RSS working group at the age of 14, worked on the development of Reddit, collaborated on the design of markdown, worked on the creation of Creative Commons and so much more. You likely know him from his involvement to prevent SOPA. All of this before his death, at his own hand, at the age of 26 under the pressure of federal prosecution for alleged computer crimes. I recommend the documentary The Internet’s Own Boy and book The Idealist: Aaron Swartz and the Rise of Free Culture on the Internet
